It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Yorkshire Day!
In case you didn’t know, on the 1st August every year, the folk of God’s Own County take the opportunity to celebrate all the things that make Yorkshire great! And it’d be rude not to join in…
Yorkshire puddings
Pretty much unanimously, this made the top of Team Telescope’s list!Whether it’s on the a side of a really amazing Sunday roast (Jane), on it’s own with some thick onion gravy (Tracy) or served as a sweet treat with treacle (Stuart), it’s safe to say this is one of our favourite things about Yorkshire. On the hunt for a good Sunday roast (with Yorkshire puddings, obviously)? We love The Square and Compass in North Rigton, or the Kirkstall Bridge in Leeds.
"That urge to chant "Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!" at a festival... even if it's not in Yorkshire!" - Jake
Our beloved countryside
You’re not hard pushed to find somewhere nice to go for a stroll and admire the scenery in Yorkshire! Whether it’s the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors or the Peak District, there’s plenty of breathtaking places to go and explore.
For keen walkers, there’s the Yorkshire Three Peaks (a walk which includes Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
For those who are less keen, there’s some really nice shorter walks too (such as around Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Abbey, Otley Chevin and Brimham Rocks).
“I'll never take for granted the amazing culture and art we have right on our doorstep! The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is one of my favourite places in the world to visit, and we have some amazing live music venues such as the Brudenell Social Club here in Leeds." - April

Sweet treats
Ok, so three of our top seven things do involve food or booze – but that’s fair enough as Yorkshire folk do like to eat! If you have a sweet tooth, there’s lots to love here.Firstly, there’s good old Yorkshire Mixture sweets, a sweet shop favourite! There’s also historic York, which has a huge industry around confectionery and chocolate making – it even has a museum dedicated to it!Lastly, no visit to Yorkshire is complete without a trip to Betty’s (pictured). A cup of tea with a fat rascal or a fondant fancy is a real local delicacy!
