In celebration of National Intern Day, which falls on the last Thursday of every July, we’re excited to share a blog post with you from our very own PR & Marketing intern, Nafatiti.
Hello!
My name is Nafatiti, and I’m a 19-year-old Public Relations and Brand Communications student at Leeds Beckett University. For the last 3 months I have spent my time as a student intern at the Telescope Group, working within the Clearsilver Brand Marketing team. I found out about this opportunity after my lecturer mentioned in class that the company was looking for someone to help with their own social media channels, and more.

Throughout my time, once a week, I have been working with Victoria (Head of PR & Communications) and April (Marketing & Content Coordinator). My role as Marketing & PR Intern entails creating posts for social media, research on clients and blog piece writing. Clearsilver mainly specialises in working with mother and baby companies, schools and healthcare. I was drawn to the company because I had previous experience working in Health PR at my previous internship and thoroughly enjoyed it there.
During my first week I was working on some social posts for an event company. This was my first experience with copywriting. I had different ideas for the different social channels as there are different audiences on each. For example, on Instagram carousels with 5-7 pictures/videos perform well. Similarly on LinkedIn, carousel articles/blogs perform well on there. I also did a lot of research on a charity that Clearsilver work with. Their annual flagship summer campaign was coming up, so I was tasked with drafting a press release to go out to journalists.

Mostly, my weeks are spent writing blog posts. My most recent one was about the AI in Public Relations webinar the team attended, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I attend internal and external meetings with the PR, Marketing and Digital teams to get an insight on what it’s like to interact with clients. It’s been a great learning opportunity as I’m able to gain real-world insight on how the team operates and makes decisions.
Being an intern has been a great experience so far. This year, I wanted to gain as much PR experience as possible because I won’t be going into a year in industry next year, and instead will go straight into my final year. One thing I appreciate is that they consider my needs as a university student. For example, when starting the internship in semester 2, where workflow becomes heavier, they understood and allowed me to have a flexible working arrangement.
My time at Clearsilver has been a great experience, and I have been met with a warm welcome and encouraging team.
